  15. Catalogue Application
  16.    This looks like an application and has the thumbcat icon to identify it.  However it contains
  17.    all the details for a catalogue and optionally contains all the image thumbnails.  This
  18.    catalogue application can be moved anywhere without breaking the catalogue.

  21. Pre-Requisites

  24. SpriteExtend module with JPEG extension (released with RiscOS 3.6 onwards)
  25. CompressJpeg module (released with RiscOS 3.6 onwards)

  28. Creating a catalogue from existing images
  29. =========================================
  30. 1. Click on the icon bar icon or select the iconbar menu item "Define Catalogue". A window will 
  31.    popup to define a new catalogue. 
  32. 2. Drag the top directory to the "image Source " - "Location" entry.
  33. 3. Drag the thumbat icon to the directory where the catalogue application is required.
  34. 4. Change the short and long titles if required
  35. 5. Modify the actions, appearance ot thumbnail sizes as required.
  36. 6. Press OK

  39. Creating a new blank catalogue
  40. ==============================
  41. 1. Click on the icon bar icon or select the iconbar menu item "Define Catalogue". A window will 
  42.    popup to define a new catalogue. 
  43. 2. Enter a name for the top directory in the image source area and drag the icon to where the
  44.    directory should be created.
  45. 3. Drag the thumbat icon to the directory where the catalogue application is required.
  46. 4. Change the short and long titles if required
  47. 5. Modify the actions, appearance ot thumbnail sizes as required.

  51. Modifying an existing catalogue
  52. ===============================
  53. 1. Click on the icon bar icon or select the iconbar menu item "Define Catalogue". A window will 
  54.    popup to define a new catalogue. 
  55. 2. Drag and drop the catalogue application to the definition window.
  56. 3. Change actions, appearance or thumbnail sizes as required.

  60. Displaying an external file

  62. 1. Drag the file to the iconbar icon.

  64. The detail view can be treated as any other detail view

  67. Displaying a directory of images

  69. 1. Drag the directory to the iconbar icon.

  71. The album views can be treated as any other album views except that moving images is not 
  72. permitted.

  91. Adding images to an existing catalogue

  93. * Copy or move an image from another album view.

  97. * Copy an image or images from a filer window. NB this works for Digiflash directories so you 
  98.   can download and catalogue your digital camera pics in one action :-)

  101. Adding albums to a catalogue
  102. ============================
  103. 1. Display the catalogue (directory tree)
  104. 2. Press the menu button whilst the pointer is over the album you wish to add a new album into.
  105. 3. Select ""Add an album".

  108. Copying and moving
  109. ==================
  110. * Click drag will copy from an album/detail view/filer to an album or filer or application.
  111. * Shift drag will move an image between albums.
  112. * Adjust drag will copy but allow you to change the name, change the filetype, rotate the image
  113.   and/or flip it in the x or y plane.
  114. * Save from an application into a Album will add the image to the album.

  117. Problem Reporting
  118. =================
  119.  
  120. Please report any problems to myself, my details are at the bottom of this
  121. file.  I will also welcome any constructive recommendations but please
  122. refer to the future enhancements section first.

  124. When reporting a bug please email the full error message!  You may also
  125. like to run the debugging window which could give further details.  The
  126. debugging window can be displayed at anytime by clicking 4 times on the name
  127. part of the info window.

  130. Future enhancememts
  131. ===================

  133. These are being worked on now:
  134.  
  135. * Database queries. The result will be a view of images identical in 
  136.   appearance to a thumbnail view.  These types of views will refresh every 
  137.   time they are displayed i.e. the search criteria re-run. A database query 
  138.   result view can be saved/copied as a user view. 
  139. * User Views. A user view will be a list of images from any album of any 
  140.   catalogue. The view will be fully functional. These views will only change
  141.   if the user adds or removes images.
  142. * Add digital camera maker notes (I have quite a few).
  143. * Parent-child relationships to allow tracing of copied files
  144. * OLE functionality so that an edited image has its thumbnails reworked 
  145.   automatically
  146. * Documentation (I do enough of this at work !!)
  147.  
  148. Annoyances to be fixed:
  149.  
  150. * Eliminate the opening of duplicate catalogues, albums and detail views.
  151. * External files are displayed with ALL exif tag details. If these are then
  152.   copied to an album then all the tags are copied. These should be limited to
  153.   the users cataloguing choices.
  154. * Smarter memory usage.
  155. * Some tuning to improve performance.
  156. * Improved progress messages, hourglass indicators etc
  157.  
  158. Maybe not the next release:
  159.  
  160. * Allow transformation of draw files.
  161. * Slideshow facility with configurable sizes, fades, borders etc
  162. * Printing of album sheets i.e. a "contact" sheet.
  163. * Validation of edited tag values.

  168. FREEWARE. This means you can copy, distribute and make use of it as you see
  169. fit, provided you do not sell it. PD libraries may include it as long as they
